Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: - Age more than or equal to 18 years - Patients admitted in ICU

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: - Hematological malignancies - Thalassemia - Recent whole blood / PRBC transfusion less than 7 days

To evaluate the prognostic significance of red cell distribution width in predicting mortality among critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unitTimepoint: till ICU discharge

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To assess the association between RDW levels at ICU admission and severity of illness. To assess the correlation between RDW and length of ICU stay. To evaluate the association between RDW and the requirement for organ support such as mechanical ventilation and vasopressor therapy. To evaluate whether RDW can serve as a simple and cost effective prognostic biomarker in resource limited settings along with routine scoring systems SOFA and APACHE II. Timepoint: till ICU discharge and 90 days after hospital discharge
