Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients will be eligible for enrolment if they meet the following criteria : 1. Age more than 18 years 2. ICU admission 3. Expected ICU stay more than 72 hours

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients will be excluded if they meet any of the following criteria: 1. Pregnancy 2. Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation 3. Conditions preventing reliable indirect calorimetric measurement

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary outcome will be percentage change in quadriceps muscle thickness between baseline and day 5-7 in critically patientsTimepoint: Baseline - day 1-2 Day 5-7

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Secondary outcomes include: -ICU length of stay -ventilator free days -ICU mortality -longitudinal changes in normalized energy expenditure Timepoint: Day 0-1 Day 5-7 Day 14 Day 21
