Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age more than 18 years Received mechanical ventilation for more than 48 hours

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients presenting with Acute kidney injury at the time of enrolment Patients with history of organ transplantation and maintenance renal replacement therapy Patients with any pre existing neuromuscular disease Pregnant women and lactating mothers Any breach in skin over thigh preventing ultrasound examination Refusal of consent

Comparison between sarcopenia index and ultrasound guided rectus femurs cross sectional area for predicting weaning in adults receiving mechanical ventilationTimepoint: Blood sample will be taken on day 3 of ICU admission Ultrasound will be done on day 3 and day 7 of ICU admission

Serum creatinine levels Serum Cystatin C levels Sarcopenia Index will be calculated using the values of serum creatinine & serum cystatin c Rectus Femoris Cross Sectional Area & Rectus femoris thickness Values of Rapid Shallow Breathing Index, Negative Inspiratory Force and occlusion pressure during weaningTimepoint: Blood samples will be taken on day 3 of ICU admission Ultrasound parameters will be measured on day 3 & day 7 of ICU admission Weaning parameters will be measured twice a day from start of weaning process
