Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: all preterm (less than 37 weeks) neonates admitted to the Neonatology Unit diagnosed with RDS requiring surfactant with lung ultrasound score more than 8

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: major congenital anomalies, the need for IPPV as resuscitation, Severe IVH (more than Gr III and above), Neonates who received the 1st dose of surfactant with either the INSURE or LISA method and refusal of consent

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
requirement of invasive mechanical ventilation in 72 hoursTimepoint: requirement of invasive mechanical ventilation in 72 hours

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
duration of administration of surfactant, to assess the adverse events (Bradycardia, desaturation, apnea) during surfactant administration, total duration of ventilation and oxygen requirement, requirement of inotropes, duration of hospitalisation and other major comorbidities such as PDA requiring treatment, IVH, NEC and ROP requiring treatment and BPDTimepoint: 36 weeks or death
