Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients in the age group of 20-60 years with no systemic disease. The inclusion criteria for each group - Control group - Patients diagnosed with no teeth having clinical and radiographic evidence of caries/cracks/fracture Primary endodontic lesion group - Patients having a single tooth diagnosed with pulp necrosis with symptomatic/asymptomatic chronic apical periodontitis, with delayed/no response to pulp sensibility tests and PAI score greater than or equal to 3 Combined endo-perio lesion group - Patients having a single tooth diagnosed with chronic periodontitis and having at least one non vital tooth with concurrent endodontic periodontal lesion with apical radiolucency along with communication through periodontal pocket Primary periodontal lesion group - Patients having a single tooth diagnosed with chronic periodontitis with no clinical and radiographic evidence of cracks/caries.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients with acute/chronic systemic disease, recent hospitalization within the last 6 months, patients undertaking drug therapy for other systemic illness, immunosuppressant, estrogen therapy and NSAIDs, antibiotics, corticosteroids, statins, selective serotonin uptake inhibitors, bisphosphonates, smokers, pregnant patients, obese patients and history of viral/ bacterial infection within 3 months. Patients with previously endodontically treated teeth with periapical radiolucency, 3rd molars, palatal radicular groove, external cervical resorption, cemental tear and trauma related lesions were excluded in this study to ensure standardization of the included participants
