Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: General inclusion criteria for Treated, Untreaded individuals with schizophrenia and Healthy controls Capacity to provide consent and written informed consent.Speak the local Language (Tamil and Yoruba) Untreated Individuals with Schizophrenia must not received lifetime AP treatment of greater than 30 days total, with any AP treatment occurring less than 15 days continuously, with no prior psychiatric hospitalization or use of long term AP injectable, as per informant and family report.AP treatment must have occurred greater than 4 weeks prior to cognitive assessment.Those who used or use only traditional medicine or other, non AP psychopharmacological like antidepressants will be included.Treated individuals with schizophrenia must be currently receiving regular AP treatment for more days than not over the 30 days prior to cognitive assessment per informant and family report.Those who have received regular treatment over the total duration of illness. Healthy controls must have no lifetime psychotic diagnosis per the Screening Schedule for Psychosis Those who have no family history of Axis I psychiatric disorders, as this has been linked with accelerated aging Those who have not received any lifetime AP treatment
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Other psychotic diagnoses such as schizophreniform disorder, psychosis NOS, and mood disorders with psychotic features are excluded as these reflect more transient psychotic states Too psychotic to complete the cognitive assessment (PANSS items for delusions, hallucinations, or conceptual disorganization=7) Substance or medically induced psychosis per diagnostic interview Head injury History of Epilepsy
