Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Pediatric patients with age ranging between 6 months to 8 years of either sex. 2. Scheduled for elective major surgery (e.g., abdominal, urological, or orthopedic procedures) 3. ASA Physical Status I or II. 4. Informed written consent obtained from the parent or legal guardian.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Presence of endocrine disorders or known metabolic/glucose regulation disorders. 2. Emergency surgery 3. Pre-existing neurological, cardiac, hepatic, or renal disease. 4. Contraindications to caudal block (e.g., bleeding diathesis, infection at the injection site, spinal anomaly) 5. Patients on steroids or medications affecting blood glucose metabolism.

MeasureTime frame
Mean difference in intraoperative blood glucose levels (mg/dL) at different time intervals among the study groups.Timepoint: Baseline (pre-induction), and intraoperatively at 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes.

Hemodynamic Changes: Evaluation and comparison of Heart Rate (HR), Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP), Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP), Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP), and SpO2Timepoint: Baseline, post-premedication, post-induction, 5 mins post-intubation, post-block, 5 mins post-block, 30 min, 60 min, 90 min, and 120 min.;Glycemic Events: Incidence of hypoglycemia (blood glucose less than 60mg/dL) and hyperglycemia (blood glucose greater than 180mg/dL)Timepoint: At designated 30-minute sampling intervals up to 120 minutes.;Intervention Requirement: Documentation of any specific medical interventions required to correct hypoglycemic or hyperglycemic episodes.Timepoint: NIL
