Intervention1: Scaling and root planing followed by oral hygiene instructions: Patient asked to come fasting, and samples for fasting blood glucose, fasting serum insulin and TNF-ALPHA has been taken

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients aged 25-55years who seek dental treatment and are non-diabetic individuals. Fasting plasma glucose less than 100mg/dl or HbA1c less than 5.6% or 2 hour plasma glucose less than 140mg/dl Patients with moderate to severe periodontitis Patients with HOMA-IR value more than 2.5 Patients who were non-smokers Patients who give consent and are willing to participate in the study Systematically healthy patients with minimum of 20 teeth present

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Obese individuals with BMI more than 27.5Kg/m2 Pregnant and lactating women Established diabetes mellitus or prediabetes Subjects with metabolic syndrome as per diagnostic criteria NCEP-ATPIII Individuals on medications such as systemic corticosteroids, statins and hormonal therapy History of periodontal therapy within past 6 months
