Intervention1: Octreotide: Initial bolus 50mcg followed by continuous infusion 50mcg/hour for 72 hours Control Intervention1: Terlipressin: 2mg IV stat followed by 1mg 6 hourly for 72 hours

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age more than 18 years with UGI bleed and undergoing UGIE CTP A and B UGIB attributable to acute esophageal variceal bleeding Ability to provide informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Non-variceal upper GI bleeding, Isolated Gastric and Ectopic varices Uncontrolled shock despite resuscitation Previous TIPS or surgical shunt Ischemic heart disease or severe peripheral vascular disease Known allergy to study drugs Pregnant or lactating women
