Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients admitted to ICU requiring short-term indwelling urinary catheterization LESS THAN 14 DAYS Patients consenting for participation in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Age LESS THAN 18 years. Patients with symptoms or laboratory evidence of UTI at the time of ICU admission Patients with history of long-term catheter use Patients with structural urinary tract abnormalities or recent urological surgery Patients receiving antibiotics specifically for UTI at admission

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the incidence of catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) among short-term indwelling ICU patients using antibiotic-impregnated urinary catheters versus standard urinary catheters in a tertiary care centre.Timepoint: at baseline; on the day of fever or UTI symptoms develop before 14 days , if not , then at 14 days.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To assess the spectrum of microorganisms & antimicrobial susceptibility patterns associated with CAUTI in both catheter groups. To evaluate clinical outcomes including duration of catheterization, need for antibiotic escalation, length of ICU stay, & catheter-related complications. To identify patient-related & procedure-related factors that may influence the risk of CAUTI. To document any adverse reactions or intolerance specifically attributable to the antibiotic-impregnated urinary catheter during the study period. Timepoint: at baseline,on the day of fever or UTI symptoms that develop before 14 days if not,then at 14 days
