A study to observe changes in hearts pumping function in patients undergoing Heart bypass surgery without heart-lung machine, measured using ultrasound of the heart before surgery and at three time points after surgery.

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adults 18 70 years undergoing OPCAB.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patient refusal, suboptimal images, valvular disease, prior pacemaker, incomplete revascularisation, severe myocarditis, significant arrhythmia, redo surgery, conversion to on-pump, more than mild LV/RV dysfunction, more than mild valvular lesions, re-exploration

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Change in LV global work efficiency (GWE) postoperatively versus preoperative baseline in OPCABG.Timepoint: T1 (preoperative or baseline), T2 (post extubation), T3 (pre ICU discharge), T4 (pre hospital discharge)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To correlate the postoperative myocardial work indices with the conventional echocardiographic parameters Ejection fraction and Cardiac output.Timepoint: T1 (preoperative or baseline), T2 (post extubation), T3 (pre ICU discharge), T4 (pre hospital discharge); To analyse the changes in Global and regional longitudinal strains with respect to the placement of coronary artery bypass grafts.Timepoint: T1 (preoperative or baseline), T2 (post extubation), T3 (pre ICU discharge), T4 (pre hospital discharge); To study the changes in myocardial work indices after OPCAB in relation to postoperative outcomes like vasoactive inotropic score, incidence of atrial fibrillation, stroke, renal failure, myocardial infarction, duration of mechanical ventilation, length of ICU stay and length of hospital stay.Timepoint: T1 (preoperative or baseline), T2 (post extubation), T3 (pre ICU discharge), T4 (pre hospital discharge)
