Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Adult patients undergoing elective surgeries requiring central venous cannulation will be recruited in this study.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients abnormal neck anatomy that distorts the visualisation of IJV with USG and Patients with coagulation abnormalities will be excluded
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| To compare the first pass success rate for ultrasonographic guided out of plane IJV cannulation between the groupsTimepoint: At the time of cannulation of IJV | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| To compare the incidence of Posterior vessel wall puncture (PVWP) between the groups Timepoint: At the time of cannulation of IJV;To compare the time taken for entry into IJV between the groups (time taken from needle prick to appropriate placement of guidewire into the IJV)Timepoint: At the time of cannulation of IJV;To compare the time taken for successful cannulation between the groups (time taken from needle prick to placement of the central venous catheter inside IJV)Timepoint: At the time of cannulation of IJV;To compare the number of required redirections of the needle between the groups (withdrawing the needle and changing angle without taking out of the skin will be considered as redirection of the needle)Timepoint: At the time of cannulation of IJV; To compare the number attempts required for successful cannulation between the groups (withdrawal of the needle out of the skin will be considered as one attempt) Timepoint: At the time of cannulation of IJV;To compare the adverse events (pneumothorax, carotid puncture, hematoma) between the groupsTimepoint: At the time of cannulation of IJV;To compare the performer ease of insertion between the groupsTimepoint: At the time of cannulation of IJV | — |
