Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients posted for elective surgeries under general anaesthesia requiring endotracheal intubation Patients belonging to American Society of Anesthesiologists ASAphysical status I and II Patients willing to participate and provide written informed consent Patients with anticipated normal airway and planned direct laryngoscopy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with known hypersensitivity or contraindication to Esmolol Fentanyl Patients with significant cardiovascular diseases such as Ischemic heart disease Arrhythmias Heart block Congestive cardiac failure Severe hypertension Patients with bradycardia (heart rate less than 60 beat per minutes Patients with bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease where beta blockers may be contraindicated Pregnant or lactating women
