Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Diagnosis of substance use disorder based on DSM 5 criteria. Abstinent for 72 hours to one week. Maximum of third relapse. History of use of a minimum of two psychoactive substances. Currently undergoing rehabilitation. Able and willing to provide written informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Diagnosed with severe psychiatric illness and currently symptomatic. Cardiac illness. Respiratory illness. Current intoxication. Significant withdrawal symptoms. Fever or any acute medical condition that may interfere with participation in the study.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Heart rate variability indices. Emotion regulation scores. Withdrawal symptom severity. Timepoint: Baseline and post-intervention after completion of 6-8 Heart rate variability biofeedback sessions and 3 month follow up.
