Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: more than 18 years ASA ps II & III

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with recurrent or metastatic head and neck cancer. 2. Prior surgery for head and neck cancer. 3. CT scans of insufficient quality or missing the C3 vertebral level. 4. Presence of conditions significantly affecting muscle mass independent of cancer (e.g., neuromuscular disorders, severe cachexia unrelated to cancer). 5. Previous percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy(PEG), gastrectomy, partial laryngectomy and esophagectomy

MeasureTime frame
Prevalence of sarcopenia (defined using C3-level CT-derived skeletal muscle index measurements) in patients with carcinoma larynx undergoing total laryngectomy.Timepoint: post operative days 1 till their stay in hospital

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Length of ICU stay and hospital stay in patients with low skeletal muscle mass (sarcopenia).Timepoint: During postoperative hospital admission until ICU disharge and hospital discharge.
