Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients with a diagnosis of Mental and Behavioral disorder due to use of alcohol as per ICD 10 Diagnostic Criteria for research, ensuring the diagnostic accuracy and standardization. 2.Participants are drawn from the inpatient unit at RINPAS. This is important in ensuring a safe and controlled treatment environment. 3.Only adult males aged 21-30 years are selected. This is done for sample homogeneity and to focus attention on a high-risk group. 4.Primary levels of education or able to read and write in Hindi or English. This is done to make sure they understand the instructions and consent. 5.Those with at least two years of alcohol consumption are included to ensure dependence is established. 6.Those who have undergone two weeks of detoxification are included to ensure medical stability before therapy. 7.Only those who will give informed consent are included to ensure voluntary and ethical participation

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Major psychosis or neurological disorders are excluded to allow smooth, uncomplicated physical and emotional progress in therapy. 2.Those with major physical illness are excluded to avoid health complications during treatment. 3.Those with mental retardation will be excluded since they may not fully understand or appreciate the process of EMDR. 4.Users of other substances are excluded in order to avoid confounding effects of multiple dependencies. 5.Participants with PTSD are excluded to avoid the overlap of trauma symptoms with issues of addiction.
