Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients who are Conscious and obeys commands, Adult patients receiving mechanical ventilation for at least 48 hours and Participants who pass the Spontaneous breathing trial and are planned for extubation.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Inability to perform HGS test. due to Rheumatological, / muscular disease, amputation, cachexia, confusion/ delirium ,Tracheostomy, Hemodynamically unstable and Unplanned and/or accidental extubation.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To determine the association of Handgrip strength (HGS) in patients admitted to Intensive care unit (ICU) during weaning and extubation from mechanical ventilation. Timepoint: 48 hours to 2 weeks of mechanical ventilation.—

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To assess changes in handgrip strength recorded at 30 minutes post spontaneous breathing trail, prior to extubation and 2 hours post extubation. To determine the association of Handgrip strength with mNUTRIC score and Rapid shallow breathing index. [RSBI]Timepoint: 30 minutes post Spontaneous breathing trail, before extubation and 2 hours after extubation.—
