Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1 Patients aged 14-30 years. 2 Indication for bilateral maxillary first premolar extraction. 3 Requirement of canine retraction as part of treatment. 4 Good general health. 5 No history of previous orthodontic treatment. 6 Healthy periodontium with good oral hygiene.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1 Systemic diseases affecting bone metabolism. 2 Long-term use of medications influencing bone turnover (corticosteroids, bisphosphonates, NSAIDs). 3 Active periodontal disease. 4 Smoking habits. 5 Unilateral chewing. 6 Para-functional habits. 7 Pregnancy or lactation.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Rate of orthodontic canine retraction measured on study casts using digital Vernier caliper by measuring the distance between canine and stable palatal rugae reference point.Timepoint: Measurements will be recorded at baseline, 4 weeks, 8 weeks and 12 weeks after initiation of canine retraction.
