Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Singleton pregnancy 2. more than 37 weeks gestation 3. Elective Lower Segment Caesarean Section (LUCS) under spinal anaesthesia

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Emergency LUCS 2. Fetal distress 3. Multiple pregnancy 4. Other hemoglobinopathies (e.g., HbS, HbC) 5. Maternal comorbidities (e.g., pre-eclampsia, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, placenta previa,) 6. preoperative hypoxemia (oxygen saturation less than 94%) 7. premature rupture of membranes
