Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Children and adolescents in the age group of 5-18 years with Transfusion dependent thalassemia (TDT) who are receiving blood transfusion or attending day care facility for follow up as cases. 2. Age and sex matched healthy children and adolescents attending the outpatient Department of Dentistry and Unit of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry for regular dental checkup as controls. 3. Children and adolescents along with their parents who can read and understand Hindi

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Any major chronic systemic diseases such as bronchial asthma, chronic kidney disease/chronic liver disease and autoimmune diseases. 2. Unco-operative children who will not allow dental examination: Frankl Behavior Rating 1 and 2. 3. Children and adolescents undergoing/having history of orthodontic treatment.

PedsQL Oral Health Scale scores in patients with Transfusion dependent thalassemia (TDT) compared with age and sex matched healthy controls.Timepoint: At baseline single time point during study enrolment.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1.PedsQL Generic Core Scale scores in patients with Transfusion dependent thalassemia (TDT) compared with age and sex matched healthy controls. 2.Correlation between PedsQL Oral Health and Generic Core Scale scores in patients with Transfusion dependent thalassemia (TDT) with severity of disease in terms of degree of anemia and iron overload. 3.Oral health parameters in terms of caries experience, oral hygiene status and gingival health in patients with Transfusion dependent thalassemia (TDT) compared with age and sex matched healthy controls. Timepoint: At baseline single time point during study enrolment.
