Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Non-diabetic patients Patients with moderate periodontitis without diabetes mellitus. Normoglycemic individuals should present no history of pre-DM or DM confirmed by the patient s physician with glycated haemoglobin HbA1c levels greater than 7 percent. Age greater than 30 years old. More than 15 teeth should be present (excluding third molars. More than 30 percent of sites with probing depth PD more than 4mm. Diabetic Patients Patients Diagnosed of type 2 DM established by a physician for more than 3 years and glycated haemoglobin HbA1c level greater than 7 percent on oral hypoglycaemic drugs.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Non-diabetic patients History of pregnancy, breastfeeding. Subgingival periodontal therapy in the past 12 months. Use of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive medications during the preceding 6 months. Use of mouth rinses containing antimicrobials. Systemic conditions (except type 2 Diabetes Mellitus) that could affect the progression of periodontitis. Diabetic Patients Patients on Insulin treatment. Major complications of DM, such as cardiovascular and peripheral vascular diseases and nephropathy.
