Interventions

Intervention1: Playback of mother s recorded voice during surgery: Mother s recorded voice will be played to the child through headphone intraoperatively. Intervention duration will be after induction

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Paediatric patients of age 2-8 years belonging to ASA grade 1 or 2 scheduled for minimally invasive elective surgery of duration 1- 4 hrs under general anaesthesia after written informed parental consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.ASA Grade 3 or 4 2.Presence of developmental delays or neurological diseases 3.Deafness or hearing impairments 4.Maternal mutism 5.Absence of the mother to record story

To compare severity of emergence delirium using PAED score. Timepoint: a)Immediately After Extubation b)Immediately upon arriving in PACU c)10 mins after arriving in PACU d)20 mins after arriving in PACU e)30 mins after arriving in PACU;To compare pain scores in post anaesthesia care unit (PACU) using Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, Consolability (FLACC) scale. Timepoint: a)Immediately After Extubation b)Immediately upon arriving in PACU c)10 mins after arriving in PACU d)20 mins after arriving in PACU e)30 mins after arriving in PACU;To compare extubation timeTimepoint: Duration from cessation of anaesthetic agent to extubation.;To compare eye opening timeTimepoint: Time taken by patient to open his/her eyes from the time of cessation of anaesthetic agent. ;To compare duration of PACU stay. Timepoint: From arriving in PACU till shifting to ward.
