Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1 Mallampati class one and two 2 BMI less than thirty kg per metre square 3 Patients posted for elective surgical procedures undergoing general anaesthesia requiring Mask ventilation during induction 4 American Society of Anesthesiologists ASA physical status I or II 5 Patients with normal facial anatomy conducive to facemask ventilation 6 Patients who provide written informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1 Anticipated difficult airway for example Restricted mouth opening, neck pathology 2 History of obstructive sleep apnoea, facial trauma, or prior airway surgeries 3 Edentulous patients or those with poorly fitting dentures 4 Presence of facial hair for example beards or moustaches interfering with mask seal 5 Patients with respiratory distress, altered consciousness, those undergoing emergency procedures or a full stomach requiring rapid sequence intubation. 6 Pregnancy 7 Refusal to provide informed consent

To compare the Hook method and single handed E and C technique of mask holding by novice for effective ventilation in adult patients undergoing general anaesthesia with respect to Mean exhaled tidal volume of 12 breaths in 1 minute Mean End-Tidal Carbon Dioxide of 12 breaths in 1 minute Timepoint: the mean of the exhaled tidal volume measured for 12 breaths in one minute (VTe), Mean End-Tidal Carbon Dioxide of 12 breaths in 1 minute (EtCO2 ) and the oxygen saturation (SpO2 ), for each breath during mask ventilation will be recorded before induction of anaesthesia

To compare the operator-reported comfort level for Hook method and single handed E and C technique of mask holding by novice for effective ventilation in adult patients undergoing general anaesthesia with respect to a 5- point likert scaleTimepoint: The operator comfort of the technique will be assessed using a 5-point Likert scale by asking the airway providers to grade the technique after mask holding.
