Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients at least 18 years of age. 2. Patients admitted with blunt trauma chest within 48 hours of injury

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Polytraumatized Patients 2. Burn victims 3. Patients with a known history of malignancies 4. Patients with pre-existing chronic lung disease (e.g., COPD, interstitial lung disease, bronchial asthma) 5. Smokers more than 20 pack years 6. Thoracic trauma severity score of zero

MeasureTime frame
1. To correlate the values of CC 16 with the severity of chest trauma based on the Thoracic Trauma Severity Score (TTSS) and to predict the occurrence of ARDS in traumatic chest injuriesTimepoint: baseline serum cc16 levels at day of admission and day 3 follow-up (day 7)- assessment for development of ARDS

1. To assess the clinical progress of chest injury & correlate with the change in the CC 16 assay. 2. To identify the role of CC 16 in predicting the occurrence of pneumonia in traumatic chest injuries. Timepoint: mortality at 28 days ICU length of stay ventilator days
