Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients aged 50 years and above presenting with intertrochanteric fracture of femur admitted in the Department of Orthopaedics and treated with either Dynamic Hip Screw (DHS) or Proximal Femoral Nail (PFN). Patients willing to participate and provide informed consent will be included.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Pathological fractures of femur 2. Polytrauma patients 3. Previous surgery on the affected hip 4. Subtrochanteric extension of fracture 5. Patients not willing to participate in the study 6. Patients medically unfit for surgery

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Fracture collapse rate measured on serial follow-up radiographs by assessing change in position of lag screw and shortening at fracture site after fixation with Dynamic Hip Screw or Proximal Femoral Nail.Timepoint: Post operative day 1, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Maintenance of neck shaft angle measured on anteroposterior radiographs of the hip immediately post-operative and during follow up.Timepoint: Post operative day 1, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months.
