Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1)patients of either sex of age more than or equal to 65 years 2)scheduled for primary unilateral total knee replacement surgery 3)ASA Grade 1 to 3

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1)patient refusal or inability to provide informed consent 2)documented autonomic neuropathy unrelated to aging or chronic illness 3)permanent pacemaker or arrhythmias interfering with heart rate variability interpretation 4)recent (less than 6 months) myocardial infarction aor cerebrovascular accident 5)severe cognitive impairment precluding performance of autonomic tests
