Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients with type 2 diabetes: Includes both newly diagnosed patients ( less than 1 including 1 year since diagnosis ) long standing diabetic patients (greater than 1 year since diagnosis ) not currently on statin or other lipid lowering agents Patients with age greater than 40 years Patients willing to undergo a dilated fundus examination
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients with retinal disease unrelated to diabetes (e.g.,hypertensive retinopathy ,age related macular degeneration ). Patients on lipid -lowering medications. Patients with systemic diseases affecting lipid metabolism (e.g., hypothyroidism , nephrotic syndrome ). Pregnant women Active infection Coexisting ocular disorders like uveitis ,opaque or hazy media . Retinal disorders like retinal vein/artery occlusions, retinitis pigmentosa , vitreoretinal degenerations and dystrophies , high myopia and recent ocular injuries (less than 6 months )
