Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: There are three groups: (1) Stroke with Depression 1.1. In the chronic stage of stroke (6 months since stroke episode). 1.2. Clinical diagnosis of depression. 1.3. With any anterior circulation stroke. 1.4. With first-ever stroke. 1.5. With ischemic or haemorrhagic stroke. 1.6. Between the ages of 18 to 55 years. 1.7. Fluent in either English, Hindi, Kannada, or Tamil. 1.8. Education of at least 7th grade. 1.9. Individuals of all sexes. 1.10. Right-handed individuals. (2) Stroke without Depression 2.1. In the chronic stage of stroke (6 months since stroke episode). 2.2. With any anterior circulation stroke. 2.3. With first-ever stroke. 2.4. With ischemic or haemorrhagic stroke. 2.5. Between the ages of 18 to 55 years. 2.6. Fluent in either English, Hindi, Kannada, or Tamil. 2.7. Education of at least 7th grade. 2.8. Of all sexes. 2.9. Right-handed. (3) Healthy Controls 3.1. Fluent in either English, Hindi, Kannada, or Tamil. 3.2. Education of at least 7th grade. 3.3. Of all sexes. 3.4. Right-handed. 3.5. Between the ages of 18 to 55 years.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: There are three groups: (1) Stroke with Depression 1.1. Presence of hemi-neglect syndrome. 1.2. Presence of global aphasia interfering with speech/language comprehension based on clinical judgement. 1.3. Presence of amusia. 1.4. Presence of dementia as per clinical judgement. 1.5. Premorbid intellectual disability disorder based on clinical observations and history. 1.6. Any form of substance dependence (other than nicotine). 1.7. A history of neurological conditions such as tumours, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, and degenerative disorders, or other severe psychiatric illness including Bipolar Affective Disorder and Psychotic illnesses. 1.8. Uncorrected vision and hearing deficits. (2) Stroke without Depression 2.1. Presence of hemi-neglect syndrome. 2.2. Uncorrected vision and hearing deficits. 3.6. Music training for 6 months or more.
