Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. ASA Physical Status I or II. 2. Scheduled for elective day care surgery under sedation. 3. Ability to understand and complete cognitive tests. 4. Informed written consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Known allergy to benzodiazepines. 2. ASA Physical Status III or IV. 3. Neurological or psychiatric illness 4. Chronic use of CNS depressants or sedatives. 5. History of substance abuse. 6. Pregnancy or lactation. 7. Severe hepatic or renal impairment.

Remimazolam is expected to be superior to midazolam in terms of cognitive recovery, orientation, and discharge readiness in day care surgical patients.Timepoint: Assessment will be done at 12 months.
