Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Full term primigravida American society of Anaesthesiologists physical status II Scheduled for elective cesarean section under spinal anaesthesia Able to understand and report pain intensity

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: patient refusal of spinal anaesthesia Haemodynamic instability Patient in active labour Spinal puncture assumed to be technically difficult No previous history of spinal anaesthesia No ongoing analgesic intake More than two attempts at dural puncture
