Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: All controlled diabetic patients coming under ASA II category who are on oral hypoglycemic drugs with Hba1C less than 7.0 undergoing elective surgeries under general anaesthesia. They should have diabetes for a minimum of 2 years and their blood sugar level post one hour of lunch day before surgery should be less than 200 mg/dl.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients who need tight control of sugar level example patients undergoing neurosurgery.Patients undergoing extensive gastric surgeries requiring fluid restriction like exploratory laparotomy. Patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatus hernia or any other condition with increased risk of aspiration. Patients who do not consume the recommended quantity of drink will be excluded from the study.
