Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Age between 18 years to 70 years Patients admitted to ICU fulfilling the SIRS criteria Consent will be taken from the patient attendant if the patient will not be fit to give consent.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Pregnant women Individuals transferred from other hospitals or wards Patients with untreated end stage renal failure not on dialysis, medullary thyroid carcinoma, or islet cell tumors. Severe pancreatitis, post liver transplant, severe and prolonged cardiogenic shock, or heat shock. Patients on immunosuppressants/ immunomodulators. Patients unwilling to consent. Prior antibiotic use before blood culture sampling. Patients who will be admitted to the department more than once during the inclusion period will be counted only once, at the time of their initial admission, and not again during future admissions.
