Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Age more than 18 years Patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery Able to give informed consent and complete cognitive tests, adequate language, hearing, and vision

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Pre existing dementia or cognitive impairment Major neurological disease like stroke within 6 months, Parkinsons Disease, psychiatric illness Emergency cardiac surgery Severe hepatic failure or other conditions likely to cause immediate postop delirium independent of surgery

Determine whether intraoperative cerebral oximetry desaturation predicts early post operative cognitive dysfunction in patients undergoing cardiac surgeryTimepoint: 1. Cerebral oximetry is monitored throughout the intraoperative period 2. cognitive function assessment done once preoperatively and once in 48 hours postoperative period
