Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1)Adults (More than18 years) with head and neck cancer undergoing unilateral neck dissection 2)No prior neck surgery or radiotherapy 3)Literate patients (ability to read and,or write a particular regional language or English) with the ability to provide informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Bilateral neck dissection 2.Pre existing shoulder dysfunction 3.Neuromuscular disorders affecting the upper limb 4.Undergoing PMMC Flap 5. History of cervical spine or shoulder trauma

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To compare postoperative shoulder dysfunction scores across the three neck dissection strategies using the Constant-Murley Score and Neck Dissection Index at 6 months from baseline.Timepoint: 6 months (5 to 7 months) post surgery

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1.To assess the proportion of patients achieving clinically meaningful improvement (More than 10 points) in shoulder function. 2.To evaluate accessory nerve-related symptoms and their correlation with level 2b dissection status. 3.To explore the relationship between the extent of neck dissection and the range of shoulder motion.Timepoint: 1.Proportion of patients with more than 10 point improvement in Constant-Murley Score and NDII at 2 4 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months post-surgery. 2.Incidence of accessory nerve-related symptoms and correlation with level IIb dissection at 2 4 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months post-surgery. 3.Range of shoulder motion (abduction, flexion) and its association with extent of neck dissection at 2 4 weeks, 6 months, and 12 months post-surgery.
