Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Adults, more than or equal to 18 years of age, intubated in hospital, with expected mechanical ventilation duration more than 72 hours and first intubation this admission
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation at any time during the period of the study; severe air leaks or chest tubes with ongoing leak; high frequency oscillation; moribund or comfort-care; pregnant patients; patients intubated in another hospital for more than 72 hours within one month of the present admission
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| To determine the correlation between dynamic mechanical power and dynamic driving pressure in adult critically ill mechanically ventilated patientsTimepoint: Every 4 hours for the first 72 hours of mechanical ventilation | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| To evaluate the impacts of peak dynamic mechanical power & peak dynamic driving pressure, number of episodes where dynamic mechanical power exceeds 15 joules per minute & where dynamic driving pressure exceeds 15 centimeters of water, & the median dynamic mechanical power & the median dynamic driving pressure per patient over the first 72 hours, on intensive care unit length of stay & ventilator free days at 28 daysTimepoint: First 72 hours on mechanical ventilation | — |
