Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1 Adult patients undergoing elective open abdominal surgery lasting for more than 2 hours 2 Diagnosed anemia- Hemoglobin less than 11 gm dl for females, less than 12gm dl for males 3 ASA physical status I-III.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1 Preexisting cognitive impairment or neurological disorders 2 Severe hepatic renal or cardiac dysfunction 3 Known allergy or contraindication to dexmedetomidine 4 Emergency surgeries 5 Patients who refuse consent 6 High delirium risk at baseline (4AT score more than or equal to 4) 7 Baseline bradycardia (HR less than 60 per min)
