Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. ASA Grades I and II were selected for study after ethical committee approval. 2. Patients undergoing elective general surgical procedures expected to last at-least one hour under general endotracheal anaesthesia such as laparotomy, cholecystectomy, hemi-thyroidectomy procedures were included in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patient refusal to participate in study 2. ASA grade III or higher 3. Patients with known neurologic disease 4. Patients with cardiovascular or metabolic diseases 5. Patients with impaired renal or hepatic function 6. Patients with history of alcohol or drug abuse 7. Patients with psychiatric illness.

To compare the efficacy between Bispectral index monitoring and Conventional monitoring in decreasing inhalational agent requirement, maintaining adequate depth of anaesthesia, early recovery from anaesthesia and lesser postoperative stay in PACU.Timepoint: Baseline,before induction and after intubation haemodynamic parameters of depth of anaesthesia and Isoflurane concentration
