Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients given general anaesthesia and undergoing oral intubation using an ETT. 2.All patients who give consent to take the medication. 3.Patients with MPC grade I, II 4. Duration of surgery to be less than 3 hours. 5. Patient who will be extubated in the operation theater at the end of the surgery.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients with preexisting laryngeal malignancy and oral malignancy. 2.Patients with history of cough, cold, fever prior to the surgery. 3.Patients with known allergy to lidocaine jelly and povidine iodine gargle. 4.Patients in whom difficult intubation is anticipated including short neck, double chin, goitre,prone position surgeries. 5.Patients who refused to take the povidine iodine gargle in the preoperative period due to any reasons 6.Patients with obvious poor oral hygiene, poor dentition. 7.Patients consuming tobacco or tobacco products in the last one year. 8.Patients with GERD or complaints of severe gastritis. 9.Patients with psychiatric illness 10.Patient having difficult intubation or multiple attempts of intubation or oral bleeding during the period of intubation or during suctioning in the extubation period.
