Intervention1: Clean gloves: Using clean gloves while suctioning endotracheal tubes in mechanically ventilated children. The study duration for each child will begin with the initiation of suctioning

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All children aged 1 month to 15 years admitting to PICU and requiring invasive mechanical ventilation. Expected ventilation duration more than 48 hours based on clinical judgement.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Closed suction being used as suction method as per physician decision

MeasureTime frame
To compare the time taken for Lower Airway Colonization while using clean and sterile gloves among mechanically ventilated children for endotracheal tube suctioning.Timepoint: Until the first occurrence of Lower Airway Colonization event at any time points on day 3, 5,7 or 10 post-admission, extubation or death from the PICU, whichever comes earlier.

MeasureTime frame
1)To compare the proportion of Ventilator Associated Infection between two groups. Ventilation Associated Infection is measured as a composite outcome with the occurrence of the either of the following events at the end of 14 ventilator days. a. Ventilator Associated Pneumonia b. Ventilator Associated Tracheobronchitis 2) To compare the Duration of mechanical ventilation between two groups 3) To compare the Mortality rate between two groups 4) To compare the length of PICU stay between two groups. 5) Type of organism/s isolated in the 2 groups Timepoint: Until the first occurrence of Lower Airway Colonization event at any time points on day 3, 5,7 or 10 post-admission, extubation or death from the PICU, whichever comes earlier.
