Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult males or females with healthy periodontium and with no systemic conditions Adult males or females with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus and periodontitis Diabetes defined as those patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus and are on oral hypoglycemic drugs for past one year with HbA1c lesser than equal to 10% Periodontitis defined as those patients with periodontal probing pocket depth greater than or equal to 6mm,clinical attachment loss greater than or equal to 5mm,full mouth plaque score greater than 20%,full mouth bleeding score greater than 10% with radiographic evidence of bone loss extending to middle or apical third of the root with at least 20 natural teeth excluding third molars

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients under immunosuppressants and or antibiotics and or anti inflammatory medications and or any drugs that could influence the periodontium for the past 6 months. Pregnant or lactating mothers. Current and past smokers. Previous history of periodontal or orthodontic therapy. Patients with Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus with HbA1c greater than 10 percent. Patients with a history of any other systemic disease other than type 2 diabetes mellitus. Those diabetic individuals giving a history of diabetic complications and those under insulin therapy were excluded. Subjects not willing to participate and not willing to give consent.
