Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients more than 25 years of age will be included 2. Patients having at least 12 natural teeth excluding third molars will be included 3. For Group 1 systemically healthy patients without periodontitis with less than ten percent bleeding on probing will be considered 4. For Group 2 systemically healthy patients with stage two or stage three and grade B periodontitis will be considered 5. For Group 3 patients diagnosed with diabetes for at least one year prior to the start of the study will be considered and included if fasting blood sugar is less than one hundred twenty six milligrams per deciliter and or glycated hemoglobin values are less than seven percent along with the presence of stage two or stage three and grade B periodontitis 6. Patients with gingival index score between one point one and two indicating moderate gingivitis will be considered for both Group 2 and Group 3

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. For Group1,periodontitis patients with any underlying systemic diseases or on medications 2. For Group 2, patients with any systemic diseases and on medications. 3. For Group 3, patients with any systemic diseases other than T2DM 4. Patients who had undergone periodontal or dental treatment during last 6 months, or using any orthodontic appliances/dental prosthesis. 5. Patients who have taken antibiotic treatment in the last 3 months. 6. Pregnant or nursing at the time of the study. 7. Patients having habits detrimental to oral health, e.g. smoking, consuming alcohol, betel nut chewing or using any other form of tobacco.

1. Quantitative estimation of salivary Gasdermin-D (GSDMD) concentration using ELISA. 2. Correlation of salivary Gasdermin-D (GSDMD) levels with periodontal clinical parameters 3. Assessment of the diagnostic accuracy of salivary Gasdermin-D (GSDMD) using sensitivity, specificity, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.Timepoint: At Baseline
