Intervention1: Structured Badminton Training Programme for Healthy Ageing (SMASH-AGEING Intervention): The experimental intervention consists of a community based structured badminton training program
Skill training 20 minutes focusing on basic strokes, grip techniques, and adapted footwork delivered progressively according to individual ability
Game based drills 20 minutes using modified badminton play to improve balance, coordination, reaction time, and moderate-intensity aerobic engagement within a safe and enjoyable environment

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Participants will be eligible for enrolment if they meet all of the following criteria: Age 55 years or older at the time of recruitment. Community-dwelling and physically independent, with the ability to perform basic activities of daily living without assistance. Medically cleared for participation in moderate-intensity physical activity, as confirmed by a physician or standardized health screening questionnaire. Little or no prior structured badminton training or regular racquet-sport participation within the past six months. Willingness to participate in the full 12-week structured badminton programme, attend follow-up assessments, and comply with study procedures. Ability to understand study instructions and provide written informed consent.

Exclusion criteria: Severe mobility limitation or musculoskeletal injury Uncontrolled chronic medical condition Cognitive impairment limiting participation
