A study to find out how long patients usually stay in the hospital after having a specific kind of lung operation which is Uniportal Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (U-VATS) and to understand why some people need to stay longer than average.

A prospective observational study to determine the length of hospital stay and discharge dispositions following Uniportal Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgeries(U-VATS) for lung resection. - NIL

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria: 1) Patients undergoing elective Uniport Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery(UVATS) for any lung resection 2) Patients more than or equal to 15 years of age.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria: 1) Patients undergoing emergency thoracic surgeries 2) Conversion of VATS to open thoracotomy intraoperatively 3) Patients who underwent non VATS during the same admission 4) Patients who decline to participate in the study

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Primary outcome: To determine the length of hospital stay (LOS) in patients undergoing UVATS.Timepoint: Everyday from postoperative day 1 to discharge date

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. To investigate the reasons for prolonged hospitalization (over the median length of stay) in patients undergoing Uniportal Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgeries for lung resection. 2. Analyse the relationship between delayed discharge & perioperative factors. 3. To determine the association between the length of hospital stay & various validated clinical scoring systems including the Charlson Comorbidity Index, ARISCAT score, Thoracoscore, Revised Cardiac Risk Index (RCRI), & the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status classification. Timepoint: Everyday from postoperative day 1 to discharge date
