Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Hospital admission with a diagnosis of acute respiratory failure, defined by one or more of the following criteria. Respiratory rate greater than thirty breaths per minute while breathing room air. Oxygen saturation below ninety percent on room air or a PaO2 to FiO2 ratio less than three hundred. Active use of accessory muscles of respiration. The patient or their legally authorized representative is willing to provide informed consent. The patient is able to provide a urine sample, or has a urinary catheter placed as part of routine clinical care.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Known chronic kidney disease Pregnant and Lactating Women Inability to obtain consent Patients who are unable to provide a urine sample Patients in whom urine sample collection cannot be performed within the first 24 hours of hospital admission
