Intervention1: Lidocaine patch 5%: Patch will be applied 30 minutes before peripheral iv cannulation. Control Intervention1: EMLA cream: Prilocaine 2.5% and 2.5% Lidocaine. EMLA cream will be applied

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients aged between 12 to 60 years. 2. Both male and female patients. 3. Patients scheduled for elective surgeries requiring iv cannulation.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. History of any cardiac disease (arrhythmia), vascualr disease. 2. Presence of local skin infection. 3. Use of analgesics within 24 hours prior to cannulation. Known allergy or sensitivity to amide local anaesthetic or glycerine.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary outcome will be the pain score during peripheral intravenous cannulation, measured using a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) of 0-10Timepoint: Immediately & 1 minute after cannulation.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Changes in hemodynamic parameters during intravenous cannulation, Incidence and severity of local skin reactions following application of lidocaine patch or EMLA cream.Timepoint: 2 years
