Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patient requiring extraction of maxillary premolars bilaterally. 2. Patients over the age of 15 years, both male and female will be included in this study. 3. Systemically healthy patients. 4.Co-operative, motivated and hygiene conscious patients.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Pregnant or lactating females. 2. Patients with periapical infection in maxillary premolars. 3. Patients allergic to any local anaesthetic agent and anti-inflammatory drugs. 4. Patients with high-risk systemic diseases. 5. Those who deny consent.

MeasureTime frame
To compare the onset, duration and pain during the extraction (depth of Anesthesia) in the infraorbital nerve block and buccal infiltration as local anesthetic administration techniques in cases of orthodontically indicated maxillary premolar extractions. Timepoint: Onset of anesthesia was recorded in minutes from injection to subjective and objective confirmation of anesthesia. Pain during extraction (depth of anesthesia) was assessed at the time of extraction using a a 10 point Wong Baker FACES pain scale. Duration of anesthesia was recorded as the time from onset to return of sensation.

1. To observe the risk of injury to vital anatomical structures when administering buccal infiltration compared to the infraorbital nerve block in maxillary procedures. 2. To reduce the anaesthetic load of the patient. 3. To observe the ease of administration & operator preference between buccal infiltration & infraorbital nerve block . Timepoint: Adverse events related to injury of vital anatomical structures were evaluated during injection, immediately post-procedure, & at 24 hours. The total anesthetic volume was recorded at the time of administration. Ease of administration & operator preference were assessed immediately following injection & after completion of the extraction procedure.
