Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients presenting with symptoms suggestive of ulcerative colitis (chronic diarrhea,rectal bleeding,tenesmus or abdominal pain) associated with endoscopic and Histopathological findings consistent with UC, irrespective of disease severity were included in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Age Patients with Crohn s disease, indeterminate colitis, or other non-UC colitides. Severe immunosuppression unrelated to UC (e.g., HIV with CD4 Known allergy or contraindication to ganciclovir/valganciclovir. False Positive or CMV IHC per biopsy Patients with significant renal dysfunction (e.g., eGFR mL/min/1.73m ) where ganciclovir/valganciclovir is contraindicated. Pregnant or lactating women. Patients unwilling or unable to provide informed consent.
