Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients between 18 to 60 years of age 2. Patients who are Clinically and radiologically diagnosed as uncomplicated appendicitis 3. Patients who are undergoing Elective and Interval appendicectomy

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Intraoperatively if needed to convert from Laparoscopic to open procedure 2. Complicated / Perforated appendicitis 3. Uncontrolled diabetes 4. Severe anemia and Hypoproteinemia 5. Immunocompromised patients 6. Malignancy 7. Local irradiation

MeasureTime frame
Incidence of postoperative intra-abdominal complications within 30 days, including: o Appendiceal stump leak o Intra-abdominal abscess formation o Peritonitis o Surgical site infection (SSI) Timepoint: Incidence of postoperative intra-abdominal complications within 30 days, including: o Appendiceal stump leak o Intra-abdominal abscess formation o Peritonitis o Surgical site infection (SSI)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. Operative Time o Time taken specifically for appendiceal stump closure. o Total duration of surgery (skin incision to skin closure). 2. Postoperative Pain o Measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) at 6, 12, 24, & 48 hours postoperatively. 3. Length of Hospital Stay o Duration from surgery to discharge in days. 4. Return to Normal Activity o Number of days taken for the patient to resume normal daily activities. 5. Cost Analysis o Comparison of cost related to the suture material & total hospital expenditure. 6. Wound Healing & SSI o Evaluated clinically using CDC criteria for surgical site infections. 7. Need for Re-intervention or Readmission o Within 30 days postoperatively. Timepoint: 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 14 weeks
