Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Diagnosed with subclinical or overt hypothyroidism On treatment with replacement therapy and also newly diagnosed

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients on medications affecting bone metabolism( eg. steroids, bisphosphonates ) History of osteoporosis or metabolic bone disease Chronic renal failure, liver disease, or malignancy Postmenopausal women

To compare bone mineral density (measured by Heel ultrasound) and biochemical markers of mineral metabolism (serum calcium, phosphorus, parathyroid hormone) between patients with subclinical hypothyroidism and overt hypothyroidismTimepoint: 18 months

To assess the association between serum thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and free thyroxine (FT4) levels with bone mineral density at the heelTimepoint: 18 months
