Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit within the preceding 24 hours who were intubated either after ICU admission or prior to transfer from the Emergency Department to the ICU.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Pre-existing neuromuscular disorders 2.Lower limb amputations or significant soft tissue injuries preventing ultrasound assessment 3.Tracheostomy in situ at the time of enrollment

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the predictive value of ultrasound-derived quadriceps femoris and diaphragm muscle metrics for extubation success in mechanically ventilated ICU patients.Timepoint: Ultrasound examination will be done 24 hours within intubation followed by at the time of extubation

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1.To assess the correlation between quadriceps , diaphragm muscle metrics and ICU length of stay. 2.To assess the correlation between quadriceps , diaphragm muscle metrics and mortality at 90 days.Timepoint: will be correlated with the length of ICU stay and Mortality at the end of 90 days
